Butter Mix 053 – Maryouss & Baba Noir
Butter Mix 53 is here!
When Mozart brought the Turkish folk music vibe to his 1782 operatic hit “Die Entführung aus dem Serail” he launched an ever growing hunger in the West for the sounds of the Ottoman Empire.
Drop the powdered wigs and funny pants and you might say the same thing is happening in Melbourne right now.
Over 3 hours cut from a 6 hour session recorded live at 1001 Nights of old, new, rare and classic sounds from the far east where the sun rises!
Mixed by Maryouss, an Iraqi emigrant living in Melbourne and DJ Baba Noir, who also emigrated to Melbourne from Turkey with his original collection of 70s Turkish psych and folk-disco. Their shared mission is to spread the hidden sounds of the Orient through mixes of dusty psychedelia, disco, jazz fusion and anything in between, celebrating the ongoing cycle of influence created by east/west crossover sounds and their heritage.
